Ground below grade, chips left or hauled, ready to sod or plant over.
A stump left behind is a trip hazard, a mower obstacle, and a place for termites and fungus to set up. Grinding takes it below the level of the lawn so the spot can be filled, sodded, or planted over, without the cost and the crater of digging the whole root ball out.
The grinder chips the stump and the top of the main roots into mulch. What is left is a shallow depression full of wood chips that can be raked out and back-filled with soil, and the remaining roots decay in the ground over time.
Stumps we left from our own removals and stumps from trees somebody else cut are both fine. We just need to know roughly how big it is and where it sits, and whether anything runs underground near it.

Questions about stump grinding
How deep do you grind?
Below the level of the surrounding ground, deep enough that grass or a new planting can go over the spot. If you plan to build or pour over it, tell us and we grind deeper.
Will grinding get rid of the roots?
The stump and the surface roots near it are ground. Roots that run out under the lawn are left to decay in the ground, which is normal and does not affect the yard.
What about pipes and cables near the stump?
Tell us what you know is there. Florida's Sunshine 811 service marks buried utility lines for free before digging, and for a stump near a line we have them marked before the grinder goes in.
Can you grind a stump from a tree another company cut?
Yes. Any stump, any age. Older stumps are often easier because the wood has started to soften.
